Extra Math Challenges

If your child is looking for a challenge, have them do these problems after the other work is finished. Some of them include skills not covered in class, but if you have any questions about anything, just let me know!

1. Austin has 11 more jelly beans than Mark. Austin has 24 jelly beans. How many jelly beans does Mark have?

2. There were 19 sparrows in the tree. 58 more sparrows joined them. How many sparrows are in the tree now?

3. There were some lions in the zoo. 59 of them went away. Now there are 29 lions in the zoo. How many lions were in the zoo to start?

4. There were 34 ducks on the pond. 22 of them flew away. How many ducks are left on the pond?

5. There are 23 ants and 13 beetles in the garden. How many fewer beetles are there than ants?

6. There are 34 ducks and 21 geese on the lake. How many fewer geese are there than ducks?

7. Sue has 26 fewer ribbons than John. John has 61 ribbons. How many ribbons does Sue have?

8. Cara has 91 marbles. How many could be big and how many could be small?

9. Andy has 65 ribbons and Eli has 31 ribbons. How many fewer ribbons does Eli have than Andy?

10. David has 62 more markers than Miles. Miles has 17 markers. How many markers does David have?

Pick a number of the day between 1-100. Have your child make a table like we did at school (the same as below). Have your child represent the number in different ways. I have included an example.
